Intellectual Horse Power (IHP)

On Linkedin, just the other day, I happened to ask a question, one that was nibbling and gnawing my mind, for quite some time.

One of the outstanding responses was; from a professional, who, I had never known, till I read his thought provoking answer.
I had to talk to him, as a next step.
I did just that.

He introduced me to the concept called: Intellectual Horse Power(IHP) and IAP.
Here I am, sharing with all you, those very thoughts.

We agreed that, it's this IHP, that finally gets to decide what you get to do, and how you do it too, in Life.
Whether you get to win or loose, races.
Win Creatively, our loose, routinely.
Energetically or Dull.

IHP decides the pace too.
By you deciding/choosing to use: IHP or IAP!

Intellect as per the dictionary, means: ' The power or faculty of the mind by which one knows or understands, as distinguished from that by which one feels and that by which one wills; the understanding; the faculty of thinking and acquiring knowledge '.

Horse Power Literally means: ' The power which a Horse exerts.'

Together, the two constitute: Intellectual Horse Power.

If we look at anything we get to accomplish, or set out to accomplish, we need one tool for sure, to make that happen.
Our mind.

Unfortunately the mind, on it's own, is capable of doing nothing, but distracting us, as: as it is, it is harnessed to our five natural senses. Naturally.
Unless controlled and reigned, properly, our mind tends to go astray, aimlessly.
Thanks to these five senses.

In the Bhagwath Geeta, those very five senses are aptly depicted as five horses, and the mind-owner, as the charioteer.
As an able, capable charioteer, one is now all set to use his; Intellectual Horse Power, to win races.

Remember Benhur?

With the above in place, you should now be able to picture yourself as the charioteer as well, in any thing and every thing you do/set out in life to do, i.e:

1) Setting of your Goals
2) Getting after your Goals
3) Achieving success after success, as "The Charioteer in Command".

As, nothing succeeds like success!
Success, through the unleashing of your: Intellectual Horse Power.
By not letting your mind control you, and you controlling it, always.
It is proven to be possible, through practice and penance.

Every Goal you set is akin to a race/battle.
You need to win that race/battle.
As " The winner takes it all and the looser stands small ".
Remember Abba?

Life is indeed a race track/battle field, and we are all charioteers, within that space.
It is indeed a battle field, of older days, when chariots were used, to wage and win, wars.
The horse power on hand, and the skill of the charioteer decided the result.
The will too.
As, will, attitude, and gratitude are, a part and parcel of the intellect, of a person.
Essential ingredients of: Intellectual Horse Power.
No wonder then "Horse Power" is still remembered/used/quoted/quantified as well, in this, the space age, too.

The Intellect within us, human beings, is developed, over a period of time.
It is not a commodity that can be bought " off the shelf ".
Developed: through education, experiences, and acquiring of knowledge, so as to reach a stage when one gets to use it too, as his/her common sense.
To be able to get to take, the correct decisions, and make the right choices, as well.

Unfortunately: common sense is uncommon.

' Common sense ' in the current context meaning; the capability to harness the five horses, and charrioting the chariot always, very deftly.
As a habit.

In other words, controlling the mind or, minding the mind.
To Live and give Life.
As an intellectual.

That is getting rather heavy I guess!

Allow me to simplify it for you here.
By bringing in a comparative.

IAP.

Let us not think of battles and races, perpetually, to understand IHP.
Let us simplify it, to drive in the point.

Picture these two scenes, to help understand the difference.

Imagine: there being a gradient that needs to be negotiated by you, along with a certain load, that is unfortunately heavier than you are, and needs to be carted and not carried.

You need to use animal power and a cart/carriage/chariot.

There are two ways you can do it, using your own intellect.

1) Use Ass power, on a traditional cart.
2) Use Horse power, on a chariot.

The first is called IAP and the latter : IHP.

The choice is yours.
IAP versus IHP!

IAP is easily available and is very common, as it needs not, much development/investment.

IHP is uncommon! As uncommon as common sense itself, is.
IHP is developed.
To win, as an attitude.
With elan.
To make a difference, in all walks of life.

IAP happens, as it is.
As, mind gets to control you.

It neither makes any difference, nor does it wring in, any pleasure.
